You are Not Failing
We get a lot of messages and have a fair chunk of our consultation conversations around this common topic. People feel like they’re failing, they don’t understand why their dog is doing what it is or the best plan to manage the situation… we get that!! We have been there too and today we wanted to highlight a few things.
You are NOT failing! If you’re thinking about what you can do, you’re asking for help, needing guidance and looking into options, it shows that you are wanting to do all you can and that, is not failing!
Sometimes we hear, and we’ve done it ourselves - that our dog isn’t like the one next to us in class, or that older soul that lives down the road is so well trained, why can’t my dog be like that…
In our sessions and classes, we take you back to the science behind our dogs, understanding the roots of behaviours and how dogs learn will help you understand the whys or the why not! Methods of Fear Free and Positive Reinforcement have scientifically been proven to be the best methods for your dog, and through reward based training we can achieve your goals.
Successful set ups is something we include as the baselines of dogs brains and genetics build up that understanding of why they are the way they are, why certain breeds display certain behaviours and how we can use positive methods to work with those quirks!
We also want to highlight, that your dog is its own personality, it’s an individual and has completely different traits to others in its breed group - and at times, in its litter! This means that there are many options out there for you, and your dog.
With this comes so many elements that are strictly tailored to your dog and its needs. Aurora for example has minimal interest in things that Fly absolutely adored. It sure has been tough, coming to the realisation that what Fly and I did together, may not happen again because Aurora simply isn’t interested in the same things Fly was... But on the other hand to that, it is perfectly okay - I have a phenomenal family of perfect kiddos and they are exactly what I need and we are right where we need to be!
The girls are so vastly different in so many ways, but the common connection is that they are my perfect little loves and even though the future with Aurora is so different compared to what I thought it could be, it is still a future packed full of love and adventures!
